Three Peninsulas brings together some of South Australia’s most distinctive coastal landscapes. The journey begins on the Fleurieu Peninsula with McLaren Vale, Victor Harbor and a cruise through the Coorong to the Murray Mouth, then continues to the Yorke Peninsula for secluded beach-house accommodation and the cliffs, beaches and heritage of Innes National Park.
Crossing Spencer Gulf to the Eyre Peninsula, the tour explores Port Lincoln, Coffin Bay, Streaky Bay and the far west coast, with seafood, oyster farming, national parks, sea lions and whale watching at Fowlers Bay. A final inland journey leads to the Clare Valley for historic Martindale Hall, local wine and a relaxed farewell before returning to Adelaide.
Itinerary
Day 1 | Adelaide to Middleton
Meet Bill at Adelaide Airport and travel to the Fleurieu Peninsula for an afternoon in McLaren Vale. Visit the striking d’Arenberg Cube, including the Alternate Realities Museum, sensory exhibits, art installations and a wine tasting. Continue to Penny’s Hill, whose cellar door occupies the historic Ingleburne property, before heading to the coastal town of Middleton. Settle into the award-winning Beach Huts at Middleton and gather for a welcome dinner at the Hotel Elliot in nearby Port Elliot. Included: dinner, tastings and activities; lunch is taken before arrival.
Day 2 | Victor Harbor and the Coorong
Enjoy a relaxed start and breakfast beside the beach at Kuti Shack, followed by a short tour of Victor Harbor and a walk towards Granite Island. Later, board the Spirit of the Coorong in Goolwa for a cruise through the barrage lock and along the final reaches of the Murray River. Look for fur seals while travelling towards the Murray Mouth and Southern Ocean, with lunch served on board. Return to the Beach Huts for free time and a light supper at the accommodation. Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner and cruise.
Day 3 | Fleurieu Peninsula to Yorke Peninsula
Leave Middleton for the Yorke Peninsula by way of the Adelaide Hills. Pause in Strathalbyn and Hahndorf for independent walks through their historic streets, then enjoy lunch and views at Mount Lofty Ranges Vineyard. Continue towards Yorke Peninsula, stopping at Sunny Hill Distillery for a tasting if production schedules allow. Arrive at the architect-designed Yondah and Seafire beach houses, privately set on oceanfront land near Foul Bay with sweeping coastal views. Dinner is shared at the beach houses. Day 4 | Innes National Park
Spend the day exploring Innes National Park at the southern tip of the Yorke Peninsula. The park combines rugged cliffs, pale beaches, lighthouses, ruins, shipwreck history and abundant wildlife. Follow a selection of short walks and scenic drives, stopping at viewpoints across the coast. A picnic lunch is planned for a sheltered recreation area or, weather permitting, a quiet beach with white sand and turquoise water. Stop at Marion Bay Tavern on the return journey before dinner at the beach houses. Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner and activities.
Day 5 | Yorke Peninsula Rest Day
Enjoy a full day at Yondah and Seafire, making the most of the beach houses and their private coastal setting. Sleep in, share leisurely meals, walk along the cliffs or beaches, read, play a board game or take an extra nap. Those wanting more activity may join an afternoon scenic drive along the coast. With no need to pack or travel, the day provides an unhurried pause before the early ferry crossing to the Eyre Peninsula. Included: breakfast, lunch and dinner at the beach houses.
Day 6 | Yorke Peninsula to Port Lincoln
Make an early start for Wallaroo and board the ferry across Spencer Gulf to Cowell on the Eyre Peninsula. After disembarking, continue towards Port Lincoln, stopping in a seaside town for lunch from a local bakery. Settle into the Port Lincoln Hotel overlooking Boston Bay for a three-night stay. The city and surrounding peninsula are renowned for southern bluefin tuna, King George whiting, Spencer Gulf prawns and rock lobster. Dinner showcases locally caught and farmed seafood, with alternatives available for non-seafood diners. Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner and ferry.
Day 7 | Whalers Way and Port Lincoln
Travel to Whalers Way on the southern Eyre Peninsula, a privately owned coastal reserve known for dramatic cliffs, blowholes, caves, crevasses and golden beaches. Spend the morning exploring its accessible viewpoints and rugged scenery before returning towards Port Lincoln. Enjoy a late lunch at Line and Label, Peter Teakle Wines’ restaurant overlooking the vines and surrounding countryside. Return to the hotel in the middle of the afternoon, leaving the remainder of the day free for rest, a walk or an independent light supper if required. Included: breakfast, lunch and activities.
Day 8 | Coffin Bay
Visit Coffin Bay for an on-water tour of the region’s celebrated oyster industry. Cruise approximately sixteen kilometres to the leases, looking for seals and dolphins, then learn directly from an oyster farmer and taste oysters freshly taken from the water. Waders are available for those who wish to step into the shallows. Afterwards, explore the rugged coastline of Coffin Bay National Park, including Almonta Beach and Point Avoid, before returning to Port Lincoln for dinner overlooking Boston Bay. Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner, oyster tour and national park visit.
Day 9 | Port Lincoln to Streaky Bay
Begin with a behind-the-scenes tour at the Fresh Fish Place in Port Lincoln. Learn how the region’s diverse seafood is received, processed and stored, watch skilled preparation and taste oysters, smoked fish, mussels, squid, octopus and scallops. After lunch, travel west towards Streaky Bay, pausing along the Elliston Coastal Trail and at Locks Well Beach for more views of Eyre Peninsula’s dramatic coast. Settle into the Streaky Bay Motel and Villas before dinner at a local restaurant or the Streaky Bay Hotel. Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner and activities.
Day 10 | Streaky Bay to Coorabie
Explore the coast around Streaky Bay and visit Point Labatt Conservation Park, home to mainland Australia’s only permanent colony of Australian sea lions. Watch from the clifftop platform for sea lions, fur seals and young animals on the beach below. Continue along the Westall Way touring route, stopping for coastal views and wildlife habitat before lunch in Streaky Bay. In the afternoon, travel west through Ceduna to Coorabie Farm, the base for a two-night stay near Fowlers Bay. Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner and activities.
Day 11 | Fowlers Bay Whale Watching
Travel to Fowlers Bay for a whale-watching cruise among the sheltered coves and rugged cliffs of Point Fowler. Southern right whales visit these waters to give birth, mate and socialise, while humpbacks, dolphins, sea lions, fur seals and ocean birds may also be seen. Learn about the bay’s history, whale baleen, ambergris and underwater acoustics during the cruise. After lunch, choose additional whale viewing at Head of Bight, a restful afternoon, or a visit to colourful Lake MacDonnell, subject to conditions and sightings. Day 12 | Coorabie to Mintaro
Begin the long inland journey from Coorabie to the Clare Valley, leaving the far west coast for South Australia’s outback landscapes and settlements. Break the drive at Ceduna, then stop at wave-shaped Pildappa Rock for a picnic lunch if the weather is suitable. Continue through Kimba, the midpoint between Australia’s east and west coasts, and pause at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden in Port Augusta. Arrive in Mintaro for accommodation and dinner at the Magpie and Stump Hotel. Included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 13 | Clare Valley
Visit historic Martindale Hall, the grand Georgian-Italianate mansion used as the school in Picnic at Hanging Rock. Continue to Pikes Wines or a similar Clare Valley cellar door for a guided tasting and a small plate of regional produce, learning about the vineyards and the area’s distinctive approach to winemaking. Settle in for a long lunch at Reilly’s Wines, leaving the evening free for an independent light supper at the Magpie and Stump if desired. Included: breakfast, lunch, tasting and activities; dinner is not included.
Day 14 | Mintaro to Adelaide
After breakfast at the Mintaro accommodation, pack for the final drive south to Adelaide Airport. The transfer is timed for a late-morning flight and brings the tour to a close after a journey through the Fleurieu, Yorke and Eyre peninsulas. The route has combined wineries, river and coastal cruising, national parks, remote beaches, seafood experiences, sea lions, whale watching and the Clare Valley’s heritage landscapes. Say farewell to the group at the airport before continuing independently. Included: breakfast and airport transfer; onward flights are arranged separately by travellers.
